UI/UX Principles for Business Websites
Good UI/UX design makes your website intuitive, enjoyable, and effective at converting visitors into customers.
Core Principles
Clarity over cleverness: Users should never have to guess what something does. Clear labels, obvious buttons, and intuitive navigation beat creative but confusing design.
Consistency: Use the same patterns throughout. If buttons are blue on one page, they should be blue on every page. Consistency reduces cognitive load.
Feedback: Every user action should have a response. Button clicks, form submissions, and loading states should be communicated visually.
Accessibility: Design for everyone — proper contrast ratios, readable fonts, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility. It's also good for SEO.
Navigation
Limit main menu items to 5-7. Use descriptive labels. Include a search function. Make contact information easy to find. Users should reach any page within 3 clicks.
Forms
Only ask for essential information. Use clear labels and helpful error messages. Show progress in multi-step forms. Make the submit button prominent and descriptive ("Get My Free Quote" not "Submit").
Mobile UX
Design mobile-first. Use thumb-friendly touch targets (48px minimum). Avoid hover-dependent interactions. Simplify navigation with hamburger menus. Test on real devices.
